Wheel clamp warning

Hi nss I am having all sorts of trouble getting smart water went round to warsash hm and was told marina had them and they could only issue it to mid river berth holders. Will go back to mdl but they dident seem to have it when i went round on saterday. Where did you get yours ?

Hmm, Smartwater. It wasn't a deterrent for the thieves who stole my new df150 (with Smartwater warnings on it) a couple of years ago. Neither were the CCTV cameras which they covered up or the security barrier that they rammed through.

Another vote for the Nemesis. Thanks to a few beers and a non functioning Waterbouy I had to cut mine off. I wont go into details, but in the end it took me about 30 mins and some power tools (not battery powered). The encouraging thing was at least 3 people reported me to the marina office while I was doing it (Mercury yacht harbor, quiet midweek afternoon).

No piece of security kit will stop a determined thief, but i think the Nemesis is a cheap and practical way of slowing them down.

That's good to know, I use one on each side so I guess that'll keep any thief busy for a little while.

Now I know how to do it and with the right tools I think I could remove it in about 10 mins, but with a lot of noise and even more sparks. O doubt you could get it off at all without the powertools.

I had a Milenco Mega wheelclamp.
The tubes were filled with concrete, weighed about 30 Kg.
Even with the keys it was tricky to get off, and I would defy anyone trying to prise it off.

I spoke to towergate Mardon today who insure the boat and their opinion is that it is nothing more than a visual deterant and they were fully aware of the inadequacy s of most wheel clamps I suppose now you can buy cordless angle grinders there's not much that any wheel lamp could do therefore I will be removing the wheels next winter and placing the trailer on axel stands might even remove the tow hitch assembly as it won't be going anywhere after September

As daft is it may sound I would check with your insurance provider if you are still covered if you do this, because in effect, you still are not sporting a wheel clamp.

No worries mate. For me, the deterrent is only part of the attraction. Increasing the chance of getting it back if stolen, and of the thief being caught 'wet' handed, also appeals.

In my mind if some thieving t**t is going to nick your boat they will. Any security can be defeated, but if your boat looks better potected than the next, the risk is less. I leave no valuable gear on & have wheel & hitch locks. Keep in a "secure" yard Pay my insurance, try not to worry!
