Where does your RIB name originate?
I’m interested(Nosey) in how others have come up with the name for their Boat.
Obviously there have been a couple that have originated through threads on here.
I’ll start.
My Ocean is called ‘The Nashers Revenge’.
There are several reasons for this.
Firstly, I have a sad interest in the history and characters of Pirating. Edward Teach, Blackbeard’s, most famous ship was called ‘The Queen Anne’s Revenge’ and I wanted to come up with a name that played with that.
I’ve been known as ‘Nasher’ by friends since I was a small child.
I brought the RIB as a complete Wreck, and have re-built and re-fitted it on a budget, partly due to being made redundant 3 times during that period, and not working for some of it. So the name has become a two fingered gesture to everyone that has made me redundant whilst I’ve managed to hold on to it despite coming incredibly close several times to having to sell it to live off the money tied up in it.
Nasher.

RIB Name
This is going to be embarrassing
Well, when trying to name my previous RIB, my eldest son was going through a Deep Purple phase, and having a history with old tech racing 2 strokes, one of their songs came to mind. Mind, I do feel sorry for the new owner, "Smoke on the Water" three times is a mouth full.......
Not sure whether the current one is any better or worse; after the previous effort I wanted a one or two syllable name, and our family names are Ian, Ann, Andrew, and John
It's the best we could manage

Northern Lite
1.I'm Northern and proud
2.The boat is dead lightweight (I'm not!)
I wanted to go with something along the lines of Jaffa cakes, it being orange but I discovered several other boats in my cruising area were called Jaffa.

Business
A friend had a boat called "Business".
Very sad I thought until out fishing one day and the office rang him. His comment was "sorry, out on Business, will sort it out tomorrow"

The Galileo 7. I'm admittedly a star trek fan and it is the name of one of the shuttles from the original series. The Galileo 7 was about a small shuttle (3.4M sib) they take it out pretty far and get lost (bought a gps for this reason) and Mr. Spock has to make an irrational decision/ gambit to save the lives of the crew. It was one of my favorite episodes and it seemed an appropriate name for a small boat (one that would probably be sailed well past what would be prudent).

My last boat was called RIBtickle which was mostly the wifes choice (she has a somewhat unsophisticated sense of humour), the new one was almost called RIBTickle Too but I decided on something a bit less twee.
I originally looked at Gaelic mythology for a name but all the relevant ones would have just been horrendous for saying over the VHF and would have to have been spelt each time. So I picked the best one that sounded half decent in English. It is the name from mythology of the Gaelic sea gods magic boat that required neither wind nor sail to move from place to place. He must have had a good outboard, probably a Seagull that long ago........

AFAIK mine was named after Amundsen's ship 'Fram' which wandered around these parts at one point:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fram
It probably wouldn't have been my choice but I figured I have had enough bad luck without renaming it

" INDE" short for Indefatigable (HMS) and C.S. Forester's Hornblower books.

You could well be right. Have no means of checking at the mo. However, INDE it is cos I have just stuck the lettering on.
