Where to go near Leeds?

Hello all. I have just bought a 4m RIB today and it is my first time owning one. I have experience driving them but new to ownership, so wondering if anyone knows any good locations to take it out? Preferably a club type location and with storage facilities would be even better. Happy to travel up to about 50 miles from Leeds.

Any help greatly appreciated, thank you

Hi and welcome. The nearest locations to you will be either North East coast - Scarborough, Whitby or the Lakes. There are marinas on Windermere.

Hi and welcome.

When we are looking at holiday launch locations I find the best thing is to use Google Earth and scroll up and down the coast fairly well zoomed in. Harbours, Marinas, slipways and clusters of small boats at the top of a beach all give some pointers. If there is no sign of small craft activity for mile after mile there's probably a good reason.

You can then dovetail what you find to how you want to use the boat... fishing, just getting on the water for a few hours, stopping at safe beaches, places to stop and eat etc.

Thank you for your replies I really do appreciate it. Ferry Nab in the Lakes looks ideal so I am planning an outing once all my safety equipment and lines arrive!

You will need to register to use a boat on Windermere:-

Or go to Ullswater (I’m sitting here at waterside campsite as we speak) plenty of campsites with direct lake access, 10 mph speed limit (allegedly ) and no registration required.

I carry a printed booklet from the Lake District National Park Authority with me when I'm in the Lakes, just in case I'm ever stopped for speeding. It states 10 mph or 10 knots! I know it's only 1.5 mph difference but it makes a big difference keeping my sib on the plane.
