What is the proper way to dispose of expired flares? I am due to get rid of mine. As much fun as it would be to launch them...I am not sure it is the best idea overall.

Peter not sure what the rules are in the US. Might be worth asking the question in the "North American" part of the forum where some of the locals might comment. In the UK the best option is to take them back to a good chandler when you buy new ones - but the coastguard also have a disposal scheme.

Even in the UK the CG get a bit antsy about people setting them off (especially near the coast) on the 5th of November...

For what it's worth, we carry an Ikaros RORC flare pack which contains: 4 Red Hand Flares, 2 Orange Buoyant Smokes, 4 Red Parachute Flares and 4 White Hand Flares. These went out of date, however, last December (note to self: either replace or remove from boat before next going to France) and am also wondering what to replace them with given that a replacement pack is just shy of £200.00 for three year's use (or, hopefully, non-use!).

I wonder where ribnet members would be on the scale of normality if we did a word association test?

Personally I think that these laser flares do have a place in our ribbing community.

While I hear your pain K, I fear we may have to rely on the more traditional munitions in the Struggle Against Black Shadows (S.A.B.S.)
I was always a big fan of the low trajectory para
