White seating stains

Has anyone had white upholstery for their seating start to turn pink in patches I'm at a loss as to how to clean it if this is even possible, the material is a PVC type material and the boat is only ever used in freshwater

Cheers PP

Yes seen it in the past on dad's larger boats. Absolute pain. It's caused by a bacteria and goes deep into the vinyl so surface cleaning doesn't really work.

There are a few ideas online for cleaners/cures but we found nothing removed the stain.

He ended up replacing the upholstery in a darker colour.

Hi Fen,

Thanks for the quick response this is pretty much what we did with the other boat just replaced the vinyl with navy blue instead of white.

RIBase
saveable

Go to B&M, buy a £20 addis steam cleaner and some microfibre cloths

You can also try some leather cleaner with this also

I followed the steps on this youtube video and it worked for black and rust stains on my grey and yellow vinyl

may have to do it 2 or 3 times, but it worked for me

£30 is a bet I would be willing to take

If the pvc has been regularly exposed to the sun / ultraviolet light, it will become brittle, and begin to crack.....there is little point in cleaning it if the pvc is uv sick.

Not sure if that applies to you.

you could try some whitening toothpaste and a brush.

generally with that seating material on a rib like others have mentioned the material does go rather brittle and can get stained if you dont regularly clean them and then put some nice protecter paste/gel/cream on them.
