XS 400 minor refurb

Plan this Winter to
  • add a second Jockey seat,(I'm fed up with standing up!) this will have to sit directly behind the 1st as there isn't a great deal of room, by me, I intend to glass and screw it to the deck.
  • move the back rest to the back of the 2nd seat
  • Remove current console grab rail and have Mark at Marine Fabrications make me a smaller back rest and grab rail, and a round screen grab rail like Mr Caton
  • remove screen and have Mr Nugent make me a bigger one!

counter sunk the holes, put gaffa tape on the under side and with a disposable syringe half filled the holes with fibre glass.

my plan next is to fill with gelcoat and cover with an acetate sheet.

then sand and polish

tips on preparing the floor?

I need to sand down this floor surface, just in the new jockey seat footprint plus 20mm so I can glass it down. XS tell me it is gelcoat with polyester resin chips.

any suggestions?

Why screw? Might be problematic!

Let me put it the other way round; why do you want to screw them down? Even stainless can rust which may cause its own problems.......
IF you penetrate the deck can you be sure that you will completely seal the openings, above deck AND below deck?
My XS did not have screws into the seat bases........
IF I was doing it, and IF the seat has a base, then proper preparation, a couple of layers of mat, liberally wetted, and plonk the seat down onto it. Job done

Of course, plonking down can always be refined

I would have thought an ordinary stone grinding disc would do the job, they are usually green labels I think from memory. the stone discs are designed to break off the grinding chips quicker so doesn't clog up as much
