Yarmouth and Ventnor Fuelling

Can anyone tell me if there is a petrol station within a short walking distance of Yarmouth Harbour.

I will need to carry the 25 Ltr outboard cans so don't want to lug it too far.

Also the same for the new harbour at Ventnor. And the Longitude and Latitude Co Ordinates please.

Any help would be welcome.

Regards Nick R.

I wanted to try and save some money for me and my mates by refuelling at a Super store or Garage.

Cheers anyway.

Their is a small garage where you can get fuel in Yarmouth, only about a five minute walk, with regards to Ventnor their is no fueling facility in the basin, but their ia a garage if you want a hike up a very steep hill. Sounds like you are planning a trip round the Island. Wouldnt recommend it on small amounts of fuel.

Just thinking about it at the moment. I shall be carrying 70 Ltrs, which is a fair amount for the size of my boat, but I've always thought its always better to be prepared and have a backup plan available.

Anyway you can never have too much fuel. Unless your on fire that is.

Hi Simon,

Do you have an address for the garage that I can locate on Autoroute.

Is it the national Garage at the following address:-

Mill Road
Yarmouth
PO41 0
United Kingdom

I found that on Autoroute.

Any idea of any funny opening hours.

Using Auto route I've also managed to find an Esso Garage at:-

Victoria Street
Ventnor
PO38 1
United Kingdom

Can anyone give me the location of the new harbour. ie what street is it at the end of. Auto route doesn't show the harbour.

Many thanks.

Ventnor Esplanade shoud show it up if not type in Spyglass Inn its at the other end of the Esplanade or you could try Winter Gardens Cascades Hill. Its a fair trudge up the hill and then about 10 mins to the garage just go up the cascades turn right and then straight on its on a bend in the road . I bet it will be more fun going down hill with all that fuel.

Tim

Is the harbour next to the Spyglass Inn or further East along the Esplanade near Mill Bay?

Regards Nick R.

One thing about ventnor. It is not a harbour like you will be use to ie no pontoons. You will have to catch one of the fisherman to give you a ride ashore.

Simon,

Cheers for that bit of info. If push comes to shove we drop as many off as possible near to dry land then just one person swims in from the anchored boats. Thats when it helps to have your dry suit full of air. Provides tons of buoyancy.

It also helps to have a 16 year old along with lots to prove.

Nick,

I know everything there is to know about Yarmouth, nowt about Ventnor (its over the "other side" )

Anyway. Mill road garage is the one. Its not the cheapest but cheaper than the quay. The quay is about 98p a litre (last summer) and the garage is maybe 85p if you're lucky. So on a 25 litre can you'll save just over 3 quid. However, you might get stung for harbour dues if you tie up and walk to get fuel, you won't have to pay harbour dues if you fuel up at the berth and then leave.

The garage is, as said before a 5 (more like 3 with lanky legs like me) minute walk. This is longer than it sounds carrying a full tank though! if you moor on the quay, walk over the nearby round about and towards the carpark. The road bends round to the left and then take the first right by the school. Walk up that road and the garage is at the end.

Opening times. from memory I think they are open sat am but closed sat pm and sun. I think they are open during the week. Best give em a ring.

Another thing, there is an outboard repair bloke at the garage which could be useful for someone to know.

Hope that helps Nick!

Cheers

Tim
