Old Console out , new console in !

Cant for the life of me get the wheel off to swap the steerinng over - as would always be the way in these jobs they have differant cable ends ...

Getting there - if the weather stays nice I hope to have it almost ready to go, but seats have gone off to ' Gary the stitch' today to be sorted up - I think grey to match the tubes....how about 'shades of grey' as a name ?

I have only just read the Round Ireland thread - now that would be fun.. I wonder if a 22 year old engine would be the most sensible of things to try it with. Am sure it would give a good report of itself however ...Maybe round IOW first in it !

Maybe I'll ask mates etc to see who may be interested in support etc ...I could happily rename the boat ' Sea Safari 2' for some corporate sponsorship....

A few more hours today ..

Throttle rigged ( need to take it off to put gaiter on side of console ) ,

Console screwed in - drilled some (25) pilot holes, filled them with Sika, then screwed in , and more sika inside console to make sure ! Its not going anywhere !

Cables run in a handy hole on the back of the console - aiming to get some spiral wrap at some point - small yellow cable ties for function at the moment.

Thinking if I can keep the cables etc off the deck it cant be a bad thing ? Everything (ok its only got one 25l petrol tank at the moment! ) will be in the console and this will still leave quite a lot ( for an SR4) of space for kit, bags, emergency eqt etc in there .

Essential SR accesories are handy for climbing in and out and holding the gaffer tape.

Imagine me curled up in bow under spray deck with head in front hatch of console trying to bolt them in (also now sealed ) .

More removel of treadmaster as rear section ( petrol tank bit) was lifting too so had to go.

Stuff still needed to do/get ,

Get seat back ( thinking grey with red piping - matched bow cover and original Avon rubbing strake & small amount of red on Yam decals - ideas or thoughts on this ? )

Remove rest of treadmaster adhesive - Meths works but slowly

Spiral wrap

PM chewy re grey hypalon !

Finish controls - hardest bit to remove old & new wheels from helm units

Electrics - mount key & kill cord in switch unit on RHS of console - may need a new Kill cord switch as old/current one snapped before I got it.

Possibles :

Small screen on console ? Will be very exposed to damage though ! ( me and the screen )

Elephant trunk --I just hate cutting big holes in boats ( need a hole cutting thread ? )

Any suggestions of things I should be doing or have missed or ideas more than welcome.

Peter

Now I can see the colour of the engine properly, I think I've got a redundant can of that in the garage. I'll have a look for you.

That would be a huge result NOS

Heading 'offline' to do wiring in the garage now - it gets cold quick late afternoon this time of year.

Ok , no worries.

3 blues I think- Dark blue (the Origin motor colour), Marine Blue and Blue Grey (the later 2 stroke colour)

A crappy week at work spurred me on this eve...and the power of loud AC/DC in the garage worked its magic with the wheels

I'd left a puller on both wheels all wee and hoped they would both be free by now , but no. So loud music and brute force won through ( I think the puller had helped a lot in the week).

Both wheels off the old helm doesn;t even seem to have a key in it , oh well, this can be replaced, but a minor problem with the bracket that had rusted away so much it just came away in two parts, ( it think some of my brute forced snapped it as I can see clean metal on the break) .

However as its not needed its not a problem and hopefully some minor fidding on Sat and it will all be set up . Then just waiting on the seat to come back and ready to go !

Pics show the two types of helm ( lightweight on right and 'proper' on left - which is going back in the 'new' console') and lightweight one available if anyone needs one ( along with a wheel and console etc ) .

We'll be heading down to Weymouth on 27th and back on 28th starting in Southampton, via Yarmouth (BIBOA end of Season Weymouth Cruise).

If the weather's not to cr*p Rick's hoping to do it in the Searider. Might even have both suspension seats fitted by then if I pull my finger out!

Maybe we can meet up as we go past one way or the other, or meet in Yarmouth for lunch?

Trev

All fully rigged this morning . Proper bolts holding the throttle on instead of self tapping screws, likewise everything is now SS. ( not cheap to replace all the bolts ! )

Heart stopping monent when the engine died , check electrics, plugs, carb bowls ..bottom bowl had no petrol ...I go into mild panic, then realise the petrol pipe was being pinched up the hole it runs through in the console.

New hole needed.!!!...but then both cordless drill are flat ...so how do I drill a hole and with which drill ?

If seat comes back this week and weather holds I'm 100% aiming for water next weekend . Maybe Poole or Christchurch - Christchurch simpler to get to Yarmouth but I fear the channel marks will have vanished. If I dont get seat back it will be Poole as I can make do with a bit of play for a quick blast out to swanage and back

Great Alex. Keep an eye on weather or are you down anyway? Will text/ call in the week.

He doesn't have a spare jockey wheel and mudguards tucked away too ?

Just been and picked up the fairy...got to be worth a go..especially on the faded bow section that's more pink than red.

No idea ! They are only just getting to be of significance...I'll have a measure when I'm home.

Jockey wheel would be a result! :-)
