Africa is not a healthy place to be - expeditions are hard enough as it is without the "friendly" locals.
There are very few countries in Africa capapble of running themselves without descending into war - they still have a totally tribal society.

but sorry oh mighty one, I am forgetting myself, you are right don’t go to Africa, stay in your bedroom it’s much safer. Des

Some of the countries you have mentioned are not truly African althought they are obviously on the african continent.
Many of them are arab run and led. The people do not think of themselves as African.
Gambia I will grant you has never had much in the way of trouble - it is a tiny country which I have visited many times. It's neighbours don't have such a good record however.
As to South africa have you seen the murder rates???
As to staying at home there is NO country on this earth I wouldn't go to - I am a firm believer in "when your time is up there is nothing you can do about it"!!!

Very few ARABS in North Africa consider themselves to be ANYTHING to do with the tribes down south!!! Thought that was common knowledge???
Much like quite a few British people will have nothing to do with Europe!!!

The Force is indeed becoming strong within you young Desi my lad. Make sure you do not drift over to the Dark Side.

The impact of your statement is somewhat diminished by using wan't when it of course should be want ! I do agree that the written english skills of students and most worryingly graduates these days leaves a lot to be desired. Some of the CV's I've read whilst recruiting have been truly appalling!
Whilst running over crocodiles in Zapcats may sound fun, being at the receiving end of automatic weapons fire in Uganda, doesn't.

This is a very sad story and a very sad time for my family.
Steve Willis is my partners cousin.
They are a very close family.
Steve was a great guy and will be very sadly missed by all his family and friends.
My thoughts at this time are with his mum, dad, wife, son, sister and the rest of my better halfs family.
The held a memorial service for Steve on Saturday and are hoping to fly him home in the next few days.
Regards

Really sorry to here that - there was a photo of the team in MBY December edition but no names listed - just wondered if he was one of them?

Steve was not part of the main team.
He used to be a diplomat with the FCO out in Uganda.
He left a few years ago to start his own company.
He ran a holiday type company.
He had a call on Monday to say the team were in trouble on the Nile.
He raced out to help them.
Found that one of the team was badly injured and Steve was taking him to hospital when their vehicle was ambushed.
Makes think how swift it can all be taken away from you.
Regards
