Seen the first one before, but an excellent second Vid that I've never seen before. It cuts just after the best bit .

Guessed it was British Columbia or similar - yes have seen the videos but never tired of watching them!!!

Those boats are way overpriced for what they are - trust the Yanks to glamourise them like the Hummer!!!

If you want a boat for surf you NEED one of these

http://www.ribworker.com/

Look in the gallery - not ALL their boats are so ugly!!!

Made in Wales - like most of the best RIBS - Avon being a classic example!!!

I thought Zodiac was a French Company? Ribs aren't even popular in the United States.

Now The Hummers

Yes Zodiacs ARE French - RIBs aren't popular yet but think they will be - will appeal to the "Hummer" set!!!

Hmm, yeah maybe the Zodiac will appeal to the "hummer" set. So what does my Avon appeal to? Can you guess what I drive?

errr, I always go off topic.... Anyways I drive a Mitsubishi Montero (AKA Shogun in the UK). Point being we "Yanks" aren't all about the bling bling. And just because Zodiac thinks they can market that CZ-7 doesn't mean we're stupid enough to buy it. Though there are those that buy the H2.

I think the CZ-7 might at least open up the American eyes to what ribs can do. I must admit I like being one of the few ribbers out here. Makes me feel special when I can kick a 21' powerboats ass with my 13' Avon rib.

RIBase
Everybody raves about the Zodiac featured in the first film. But I am not quite so sure. I do agree the clip as a whole, does stir the blood, and I bow to the ingenuity and origination of their Marketing people. However, I wonder if our delight owes more to the music and “sales spin” than it does to the type of ribbing we know. Consider:
1. The film was taken in a river estuary, mainly in a fast flowing current, and there is really only one or two shots of a wave. Most of the film is taken in otherwise placid water. See if you can see two or more waves coming on.
2. I was always taught to drive a rib in such a way that the boat “stuck” to the water rather than leaving it. This of course isn’t necessarily always possible. But this guy, one small wave and…………….
3. I thought that any good rib should tend to run level-ish. This machine, despite not having a heavy diesel lump at it’s stern, seems to almost somersault at times.
4. Would you drive like this if you didn’t have Ullmann seats? Proves their worth though!
5. Finally, the genius of the clip is to show the rib against quite close-up coastline. This emphasises and points up the ribs performance. It wouldn’t work for the camera if it were fimed 13 mile 0ff-shore would it?

As I said, the clip is genius. I maintain, however, that the boat is less than exceptional.

Agree it is more down to clever camera work than anything else - not a bad boat though!!!

3. It may not have a heavy diesel lump but the engines are set back quite a bit - a lot further back than a diesel inboard!!! Also they should have moved the console forward to balance it out.

4. YES I would drive like this - even without Ullman seats - thats why you stand up!!!

Not for long you wouldn't! Drive like that bloke in the Zodiac video and you'll be knackered really quickly, stand up and things will be even worse. You're best off driving a bit more carefully, don't wear yourself and the crew out, and take care of your boat.

To be honest you are right although standing up definitely helps - had a few spins in a Hunton with wrap around bolsters - awesome in the rough - felt like I had done 10 rounds with Tyson afterwards though!!!

Standing up only helps in the short term. 5 - 10 miles and you'll want to sit! However, one good reason for standing is observation. Back to the lobster pots debate...

Personally I don't like that video. It really doesn't say much about what a rib can do besides precariously going down stream and taking a jump rather poorly. The thought that crossed my mind was," oh sh*t I hope there isn't some kind of submerged rock that the outboard on that tail heavy thing isn't going to hit when it lands (tail first)." I really didn't gain too much appreciation for the performance of that rib.

I want to see this boat in offshore conditions hitting the oncoming swells like that one video where the BIG rib was chasing a fishing boat of sorts and the video was captured from a helicopter following the scene.

I like em, i've been on the Hurricane 733's while being pushed to the limits far offshore in the winter and I'll never slag em. The CZ7 is a ready to go version of the 733 which is a little pricey in my opinion but then again, paying 14000 CDN for a 20 year old used Avon which was in todays paper (which also by the way Zodiac owns Avon) kind of makes me shake my head as well but hey, if ya got the money and the rib bug bit ya, why not.

The video, ya, kinda wish they had more footage instead of playing the same clips over and over (like an old x rated movie) but hey, it did get the blood moving, hehe, just like the old x rated movie did.

Only crappy thing - Im sure the coasties will be called out more often now in the winter months because of the "go anywhere any weather" type of marketing.
