looking for any info at all on this boat. Any experience or pictures would be great. especially interior setups. Idea on the construction of hulls, I will post some pics of a project that I will someday start...

Haven't heard much lately from you. Have you added another vessel to the fleet? That makes how many now? The hurricane could be a great boat all set up. What engine is on it? If it's ready for spring/summer we would still be interested in a Block Island run.

hello, great to hear from you. The boat is only a hull now with no tubes. It will be a while before she is ready for the water but will enjoy every minute of getting her ready. The searider will be ready for the block island run. Hope a few more ribbers can come with us. I heard the Ribcraft will have another run and I will make every effort to make this one. It looked like a lot of fun in the pics, Im still bumming I missed it. Spring will be here before we know it. will talk to you soon. Ill try to get some pics posted

Thanks for the pics Sunrider. Does anyone know what the dry weight of a hurricane 640 would be minus the tubes and motor? I tried to find info online but couldnt find what I wanted.

I am just wondering if anyone has fitted tubes to these boats. I can see the boltholes on the lower part of the tube flange. But am unable to see how the top of the tubes are fastened to the hull. There doesnt seam to be any mounting holes on the top of the tube flange. It doesnt look like there is anything like a slide in flange on the boat, it lookes like it is just bolted directly to the hull. If anyone has any experience with these feel free to give you opinion.

Sunrider, Just wondering what year your boat was. Also what are the 2 stacks that are visible in fron of the console? Are they the gas fill and vent. Also do you remember how large the gas tank was? m hopeing to get my first real look at the boat in the next couple of weeks.

The Zodiac 630 might be the equal as your 640. The tubes are removable
and only screwed to the hull.

I've been trying to load some pictures of the 640 I had that shows the data plate specs and detail on how the tubes fastened inboard, but I can't seem to get them to attach. If you will email me direct I'll send them to you: sunrider@lisco.com.

The tube attachment used a flange along the top of the gunnel similar to the outboard flange system. You're correct about the pipes forward of the console - for fuel fill and venting. I removed the full pipes though - flush deck are common and the vent is easily routed into the console to clear the deck.

In addition to the data from my boat I think you will find that Mike's refernce to the Zodiac MilPro site will also have specs for the 640...can't remember which menu it's on, maybe the rescue section....

This is a dumb question but here goes, are you sure it is a 640? Every 630 and 640 that I have owned or worked on has a fiberglass channel that runs the length of the tube cradle and the tubes actually slide into this channel on both sides. I see no channel in your tube cradle. Could it be a hurricane 590? Do you have any pics of the hull from the side?

I am probably wrong but it seems like a 590 to me....

What do you think Bryan??

I've only worked on one 640 so my experience is quite limited. but in my case it was definately a 640 using the flange and bolt system with stainless inserts on both the inboard and outboard locations....

Mine was a 1988..perhaps it was unusual because it was one of a limited number that Zodiac built in Ferndale, Washington for the US military rather than BC. Could be they spec'd those boats differently for some reason. I'll try again here to get one of the pictures to load (have sent many to Scott so he has the info).

I belive it is a 640. The hull # is xdc64073a202, I was told it was a 640 when I called around for a price on tubes. Thats what I was wondering about. I couldnt see anyway for the tubes to be attached to the top flange in the pics I posted. I should have the boat here tonight and will take a bunch of pics tomorrow. Presumably with a bunch more questions. Are the 590 different tube attachments. Ill now more in a day or 2

I was also wondering, is the flange part of the hull or is it something that I could order and add. I see the mounting holes at the bottom but have no idea how it attaches to the top

recieved the boat today and only got to see it very quickly in the dark. There is no flange anywhere on the boat. But I did see where the bolts hold the top part of the tube on the inside of the boat. It looks like there should be a bunch of bolts permenately mounted into the hull where the tubes would fit over and be held on by a nut and washer or something like that. I saw all the holes but was unable to determine wheather they were threaded inserts that will accept a bolt or just screw holes. I will be all over it tomorrow

have not gotten that far yet. I will be first stripping the entire boat down to bare hull and work my way up. Looking at possiby a 225 mariner right now because I can get it cheap but that will be a while. I have to first figure out how to attach the tubes. I dont have the flange on the hull that most of the zodiacs seam to have.
pathella does your boat have a flange that the tubes slide into or are they just bolted onto the hull. Also I was looking into useing Demerres boats in Maryland when I do get a new tube set. I noticed you had your tubes repaired there. How did you like them? I noticed you also had a blowout on the tube, what was your thinking about that. My other option was to have a set of tubes made by Paul Tilley on this forum make me a set but now am not shure that I will be able to put them on myself. I will know a lot more tomorrow and take some good pics, Ill be looking for loads of info for the next year or so..

Searider. Is your gas tank sealed into the deck, Have you ever taken it out. Mine looks like it is too much trouble to remove. There was no caps on the fule pipes so probally have a bunch of water in there as well.
