Zodiac Pro 14ft- 70hp? 2 Stroke

So looking for your advise. I have a good running 70hp Yamaha 2 stroke, and I am looking at buying a rib for it. Would a 14ft zodiac pro 420 be to small
For this outboard? Thanks for your help

I think that hull is only rated for 50hp.

Used to have a Zodiac Pro 420, and as mentioned it's rated to 50hp. I ran it with a Yamaha 40hp 2-stroke, but 50hp would be the perfect match. Trouble is a Yamaha 50hp 2-stroke is almost impossible to source as they are favoured by the commercial sector. The Zodiac is quite a shallow hull, so unless you were running it fully loaded (which is unlikely as 4 onboard was tight), then avoid.

With 70hp I'd be looking at a Searider 4.7, again scarce, Ribcraft 4.8, etc. Searider 5.4 could work, but is better matched with Yamaha 90hp.

You could always sell the engine.

Think it's looking that way. Just really wanting a small rib for water skiing and towing toys. Am I right in thinking the 4.7 searider has the hull that fills with water for stability? Wanting something that's quick onto the plane

There's a pro 420 up here with a 4 stroke Yam 60 on it, goes well, pulls donuts etc and with a family onboard. The 70 2 stroke will certainly be lighter than that so I doubt you'd have any issues with it

Finding a Searider 4.7 will be the first job. Plenty 5.4s around. It has flooding hull, but may be blocked off depending on history.

Trouble is it's rated for 50hp maximum. I know you can bolt anything on the back, but insurance will wash their hands of it.
