Zodiac Pro 420 Hypalon value

Good day fine seafroth folk!

Looking into buying an old (2000 model) Zodiac Pro expedition boat with breakdown internal hull. Tubes have been replaced with Hypalon after a walrus attacked the originals. Boat has been in storage for 15 years and looks from the pictures to be in good nick. Seller says glue seams, except anchor roller up front are all in decent condition. I am unable to inspect in person since the boat is on the other end of the country but I'm keen for a simple spearfishing boat I can chuck a 2 stroke 30hp on and go out for a day with the lady and dog. I have an old 42ft sailboat who may have space for it on deck for special cruises too, even though I have a small aluminium rib for the stern already...

Price is already decent but what would YOU veterans pay for one of these? Engine and trailer not included.

Appreciate any tips!

Looks different to the 420 I had, the two parts to the Hull, mine was a single piece. The value is in the tubes imo, check for wear where they touch the transom at the back, mine had started to wear there and was lightly used.

Value.....hard to say, probably £1k over here. Nice set up though with the 30hp, mine had a 25 hp 4 stroke, it went well , planed with 3 up but was never a rough sea type of Hull, more bounce over the wave than cut through it.

Wow, there’s your ad headline right there! That’s up there with’ I like it so much I bought the company’ or ‘it does what it says on the can.’

As mentioned by Tinker, the value is in the tubes. Find out what Zodiac charge new for a neoprene hypalon tube-set and probably charge half if they are in fine fettle.

Zodiac 420s came with Strongan Duotex, basically their own PVC weave. I don’t recognise the hull layout, and I used to have one (as is Zodiac 7-Man Pro), single piece hull composite. Do you have any other pictures of the hull layout in full? Not to price it, just purely out of interest.

Looking at it closely, the hull is held together with stainless steel plates and is a bit Heath Robinson with glass fibre work too. Looks like the walrus was in the boat!

Thanks I'll ask for pics of the transom. Recently rebuilt a DT30 included with a failing gluejoint Chinese Zapcat I purchased, itching for an application! We're lucky with all the sheltered ocean stretches here, no real need for a heavy weather slogger. You're right on for the asking price, I may even try haggle further.

Yep it's definitely been used for hard research! There's even a possibility the hull was modified at a local firm before ending up on a research vessel. Having done my time in a fibreglass factory the lacking quality finish is also very noticeable... The boat was mostly used in the North so UV probably hasn't taken too much of a toll.

Here's a couple more pics, not a beauty from these angles at all:

Looks like the Hull was modded for transport, never took the tubes off mine but it didn't look easy despite being slide on and off, loads lubricant required and a few hands to help. I would low ball them on the price tbh, being modded it's a hard sell for them.

Like you I was very impressed with this. Until I remembered that we had a season of Wally the Walrus attacks here that were very unromantic. Well, he might have felt they were romantic. And to be fair, the poor boats were royally ducked...
