3m (ish) tender

Looking to upgrade our tender so that me and two kids can explore shallower water out of the bay.

Would be used with a 4hp engine, so there should be no issue in that respect.

Sturdy and reliable make (as I'm a larger gent!).

Any assistance greatly received.

More info required otherwise you’ll get a scatter gun response.
Floor type air/solid/rigid hull?
Stored rolled up or inflated on davits etc?

I’m fairly adaptable, to be honest; I’ll consider anything.

We had the aluminium floor before which was a pain in the arse, but it added that element of safety. I have an old Avon that inflatable floor and that would be preferred.

Ideally I’d want to roll it up and store it in a small space. No trailer. Launching wheels are not required.

Have a search of the forum for the Elling KB350, that might tick your boxes. Excel have a good following on here (me included) but they will probably be too heavy & bulky for your storage requirements.

I'm with PD more info would probably get better results.
Tender - shore to mooring, beach hopping, exploring, days out fishing, sea-estuary-river, where are you going to store it, want to stay as dry as poss/or don't mind a bit of water, new/used and the big one is budget?
There's a lot to chose from:- Eling KB350 (if you can get one), Excel SD330, Honwave T32, a choice of Boatworld inflatables, then there's Seapro, Quicksilver, Sunsport. Re-branded options Bark, Fish, Bestway.
All have there pro's and all have there cons. It all depends on what you want from a small sib.

I appreciate the brand names. I would probably use it as an easy way out to the RIB (about 500m), for taking the kids out of the bay a couple of miles to explore, and that would be it.
It would be on a slip mooring throughout the summer and in dry storage over the winter.
This is not something I want to spend a lot of money on; just something safe and reliable, but slightly bigger than I have now.
I saw a 9 month old Honwave T38 for £1k- its maybe slightly bigger, and newer, than I was looking for (and therefore more expensive) which was a decent starting point.

Might be a little small? I have a 330, one size up , permanently in the harbour. Very stable and secure

That's a nice boat that's been well looked after, but yes, it's just a wee bit smaller than I'm looking for.
Thanks

With just yourself, a couple of small kids, 4 hp, you are probably looking for something between a 3 and 330, either way you will only be at displacement speed. IMO If you are thinking about £1k used for a T38, I'd be looking Excel, Boatworld and Honwave between 320-330 new for around the same price.

Thanks Steve. To be honest the £1k was more than I hoped to spend- I tried to bargain, but no luck.
I appreciate your feedback.

I know nothing about it, however it looks a decent sib for the price from a well known retailer who have only had good comments on this forum.

https://boatworld.co.uk/boatworld-air-deck-320

Excellent quality again from a well known (if a little awkward) retailer. However as PD has already stated its perhaps a bit heavy for 4hp

https://www.excel-inflatables.co.uk/...boat-sd330.php

Good quality, worldwide guarantee, but comes at a cost

My thoughts are the majority of the boats being suggested here are larger than necessary we use a tender a lot & regularly have 2 kids & 2 adults & a labrador in ours. We now have a 2.8m rib as it lives on the bathing platform but previously we had a 2.9m excell air deck with a 5hp yam & it was ample for 4 of us even when the two older kids were teenagers, it was fine for 4 of us to get ashore. If the plan is to roll up the tender to carry on the mothership I'd imagine anything over 3m would get pretty tedious. They are difficult to roll on a boat as you rarely have enough space to pack them properly & become awkward to handle & manoeuvre about the boat. My pal has a 41ft yacht & he just renewed his honwave t27 with a t25 because it was such a faff to manhandle the t27 around the yacht when he did want to pack down for storage or to stow away for rough passages. We have a 2.5m slatted floor dinghy for the rare occasion we want to take a dinghy away with the rib, even that is a pita to roll up in the rib. From the sounds of things your original stipulation of 3m or slightly less would be the sweet spot imho.

Thanks for the input.
I’d use the small, old Avon I have to roll up and out on the Rib to go ashore while exploring.
I’m 6’8”, so I was looking to be a wee bit more comfortable with the slightly bigger SIB if I was spending more time on it.
Ps Your lab must be much better behaved than our retriever!
