2 stroke - Weight, acceleration, lower service costs, easy to store

4 stroke - noise, ease of use (no mixing oil etc), economy, environmentally better, re-sale value at that size better,

All depends what you want to do with the boat.

well fishing is my plan but i've been told when there not biting , hanging off the back of it in various guises if mean to be a laugh and i expect I'll be doing a bit of that , but its a bass chasing boat really. Reliability is my main concern. The most reliable engine I can get for the money.

and I dont want ten 4hp seagulls that you very much , hanging off a long pole. That would be very very very very very very very very very very reliable. In case 9 break down , for the mega para boater!

40 HP. Its for inshore bass fishing mainly, £800 tops, long shaft, service history , but everyone does there own right ?? So maybe leave that bit out.

The requirements in order of importance

1.reliability
2.within budget
3.self seviceable
4.good used spares market place
5.fuel economy
6.speed
7.acceleration
