That looks like a bargain to me! Humber are great boats, we had one in our dive club for over 20 years! Coupled with the trusty Mariner, you have a good start! You could have some money left over for servicing & maybe putting some decent fish-finder/plotter onboard. VHF radio also of course!

A 40 on a 5m is a bit under powered is it not?

1989 second hand engine. OK its apparently ex RNLI but that means extra hours on what's now 30 years old? Assuming it is a genuine ExRNLI.

Exact humber model not stated. Is it the assault that is very shallow V and so mince in a chop...?

Assuming that engine is leccy start as well as pull? To me pull start is a pita. Nice backup but depending on your use and plans for start/stopping lots could seriously p*** you off if it's a manual only. Stick two friends on that and to start you need to lean past them to pull the go cord. Not punch them with the cord etc...

40 works well enough on a Ribcraft 4.8. 50 seems plenty on a 5m Humber Destroyer.

Older threads suggest the Assault is indeed the shallower V hull (http://www.rib.net/forum/f8/humber-a...ood-44963.html), which I presume wouldn't need as much power...

But: an old manual start as you say. And does that throttle have an interlock?

You're having a laugh right? Ribcraft 4.8 needs at least 60hp in my opinion.

The Humber (looks like an Assault) with the 40hp will be underpowered. Manual start too.

Underpowered is all relative. If the mission is fishing rather than fighting big waves at speed forty will get you there and back, just with much less of a grin!

Pull start isn't the end of the world it's one less thing to go wrong / look after, and if the "crew" are fit will be no big issue if the engine is in good shape. Doubtless though that package is unlikely to result in a long term relationship - but everyone is looking to fall in love first time round!

Pulling the lonely lass wasnt as difficult as pulling the outboard ..but then the lonely lass pulled me big time .. when she cleaned me out after I fell in love and married her ..so now I would rather pull an outboard any day and leave lonely lasses to pull themselves ..lessons learned

I missed this, but no, I'm not. It's adequate. By that I mean it'll plane with a reasonable load and is enough power to get you both into and out of trouble in 6ft of sea, which is the most I've seen with that particular combination.

If you'd just said it was better with 50hp or more, I'd have agreed. It transformed the boat from when we upgraded from a Mercury 40 to a Honda 50, but it was OK to begin with. I've never tried one with 60hp or more, so don't know what benefit you really get.

Seariders have lots of fans on here. That's a Deluxe one — moulded floor and side-by-side seating. Personally, I trust Gumtree about as much as I'd trust a sleeping leopard though, so it'd be worth making sure it definitely exists.

Is it me or is the trailer bending under the weight?

It looks tidy. That'd put me off as I wouldn't want a porn star deuluxe model so it seems wrong to rip apart a sound boat...
