I'm new to the forum and I've just picked up an Avon Rover R3.40 from 1991.
It's in truly lovely condition with only one small repair and the hyperlon is supple and shiny almost like new. BUT BUT BUT - it came without the side stringers for making the floor panels rigid. Arrgghhh! I think these were aluminium extrusions (according to the instruction book that come with the boat). I could try to make something from hardwood on the table saw....but I imagine they need to be pretty strong to resist the flexing action without cracking or splitting - and basically it would be brilliant to get hold of a pair of the proper items, especially as the boat is in such good condition and otherwise complete.
Does anyone have a pair of stringers for this boat they would be willing to part with / sell? I'm thinking perhaps maybe from an Avon that fabric-wise has finally died (if that ever really happens...I thought they just went to SIB heaven, where the sun has no UV and all sharp things have corks stuck on the end of them
) and has left you with some bits looking for a home? I'm keeping my fingers crossed here that someone can help make this boat complete and get it and me out on the water again.
I guess I could use stringers from a 3.8 and possibly other Avons - if you have anything that might fit the bill, let me know.
Best, Rob.
