Poole meet 1st Jan 2007

Anyone up for it?Will be launching at Baiter Park in Poole. I fancy a cruise up to Swanage or maybe Lulworth depending on where's got anything open (or maybe a BBQ on the beach somewhere if it's allowed?)

Biggles 05 November 2006 21:07

Hi Matt,

I fancy the sound of that. Especially the BBQ, I'll do the burgers and sausi's. Wheres good to launch with a 6 meter RIB in Poole with good parking etc.

How far is it to Lulworth and can we BBQ in the Cove. I haven't been to the cove since 79 so should bring some memories back.

Regards Nick R.

I use Baiter-it's £8 to park and launch incl harbour dues.Well signposted too.

There's 50 spaces there for car+trailer.

Nos4r2 11 November 2006 22:26

Anyone?

TJ101 11 November 2006 22:36

Mmm, could be intrested in a run out then !!

She's been on the float all year, a trail down to Poole sounds a good idea

Biggles 12 November 2006 13:06

I'm looking forward to this.
Matt where is Baiter slip anychance you can Google Earth it for me please !!

Nos4r2 12 November 2006 13:11

No probs-it's here on flashearth. The carpark entrance is on Labrador drive. Open the link and it'll give you lat/long.

The slip itself is really easy to find-follow signs for Poole, then cross channel ferries/poole quay then public slipway.

Cool-the more the merrier :)

Anyone know why this didn't get a note on it? Did I do something wrong when I posted it?

You need them in the summer-it's frighteningly busy on a hot summers day!

Bring a long rope to aid recovery. The slip is a very shallow angle and you need to walk out quite a way to launch. (you can see the end of the slip in the picture-it's only about 7-8 feet below the carpark level.)

If you look here:- https://www.flashearth.com/?lat=50.71....2&r=0&src=ggl
the boat the furthest out is at the point where mine comes off the trailer at that state of the tide.

Biggles 12 November 2006 15:10

Is it a sand or shingle beach and do you get many waves. IE, can you pull your boat on to shore after launching whilst your sorting your car and not get all the bottom scratched. Or should you anchor off ?

Nos4r2 12 November 2006 15:52

Anchoring off is best-it's sand/shingle beach but there's lumps of concrete dotted around on the bottom. The bottom is mud either side of the slip once you go 20-30 feet out.

Sounds like a good idea, blow the cob webs away :)
What time are you planning to launch?

re: launching - If any of you are yachties ....

... it might be worth checking if your yacht club has a reciprocal arrangement with either Parkstone or Poole Yacht clubs. They also have quite a lot of slipway facility, and I can't imagine it being oversubscribed on New Years Day

Just a thought

Parkstone would be nearly impossible-you need a pass card to get in through the barrier (My Dad's yacht is there). Don't know about PYC.

I'm not sure on launch time yet-I'll be down there early I guess but can't speak for anyone else!

rickuk3 12 November 2006 21:38

A party have booked the trip boat for a new years eve trip, if it runs to the usual form I normally manage to pour them off about 4am, so may set off just after that, the roads should be quiet:) I should be in Poole for 7am and get a couple of hours sleep in the car

Biggles 13 November 2006 09:52

I shall try and be there for 1000 hrs at the latest. I'm usually on time so even if we start at 1000 hrs we should get 5 daylight hours. Enough I should think for a BBQ and a visit to Lulworth.
Might even get down earlier.

It's stickied now :)

I tend to only stick events at the top of the page if it looks like they're going to involve more than a handful of people. Otherwise every thread would be a "Note"!

People can always request it for a particular thread if they think I've overlooked it. :)

Rick,

I hope your charging them mega bucks to have you out on New Years Eve.

rickuk3 14 November 2006 19:18

Fraid not just the standard rate
But the bar takings more than make up for it, ;) we stack extra bar supplies every where, even the stern deck and bow thruster locker gets used for extra bar stock:)
