what could i expect to get......

I (we) have decided to upgrade our very trusted delta 5.5 to something bigger and a little less thirsty (2 x 2 strokes).
What do you guys reckon we could get for a budget of £22,000??

I'm thinking of a hull of over 6.5m but less than 8m, a big single f stroke and console plus at least 4 seats.
Boats wise : the tornado super 7 or 6.8,ribcraft 6.8 or the red bay 6.5-7.4 plus a look at the humber range.
Am i being silly thinking that £22000 could get a boat this size as my gut feeling is go second hand??
I've had experience of the redbay stormforce 8.4 and they are fantastic sea boats but they are possibly out of my budget.
any thoughts and other boats i may look at please let me know.
cheers
pete

Have a look at this - looks IDEAL to me!!!

Ring hulls are pretty good.......

This Scorpion 8.1m looks a good buy but the Optimax does have 480hrs use.

If you go to the Redbay website there is a 7.4m wraparound console with a 225 evinrude on for £23,750...might be worth a look.

cheers guys:
I've actually seen all of those...my deltas yellow so trying to avoid yellow again??

That 7.4 redbay i have mulled over...but...check out what appears to be a crack in the forefoot ,in the bow on picture...hopefully i'm wrong but it doesn't look good.
What performance do you reckon the 7.4 would get with the 225?? 40 knots or less?
I'll keep my eyes open on the for sale www's
cheers
pete

Hi Pete,

That 7.4 was originally fitted with a keel guard, but was later removed by the current owner, but there are still remnants on the hull. Is it possible that this is the 'crack' that you are looking at? (The boats not in the yard so I can't check it!)

The current owner reports top speed around 40 knots.

Hope this helps.

I think with some haglging you could get a new humber ocean pro for that price, maybe a 7m with around a 200hp, with more than enough seating!

check them out think they may be able to sort you out! make them sense a sale, but not that its definate, and then haggle

How does an 8m Scorpion manage to weigh over 2 tons when my 5.8m Humber weighs 350kg for the bare hull and probably only about 650kg with everything on?

I know they are better built but isn't that verging on the ridiculous ..... or is the figure quoted in that ad way off the mark?

The engine probably doesnt way much less than your hull

My boat is 7.5m, the bare hull is 600kg, with tubes, seating, console, aframe, twin engines its about 1.5 tonne

What do they make them out of, breeze blocks?

A mate of Dad's, many years ago, was on about building a concrete boat. I think it was about 5 years before people stopped taking the p*** out of him, but maybe they do exist

I see why they all have 200+ HP on though....

Ah, so that's why my 8.5 Scorpion is so slow (42kts with a dodgy Evinrude Renegade prop)!

I'm trying a 21" pitch Revolution 4 prop tomorrow, so this comment might be a little premature.

Chris.
